Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson caused a significant stir earlier this week when he posted a quote that he thought was from Adolf Hitler on his Instagram account.

As you may expect, Jackson has come under fire for his post, but New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins—who was a teammate of Jackson's in Philadelphia—downplayed Jackson's post on Friday:

“We can honor the Jewish heritage and trauma while staying focused on what matters,” Jenkins said on Instagram. “Jewish people aren’t our problem, and we aren’t their problem. Let’s not lose focus on what the problem truly is, and that’s that black lives still don’t matter in this country.”

“We gotta stay focused,” Jenkins said. “All of this back and forth that’s going on right now is a distraction. Comments were made, and they were wrong. Allow those who were impacted by it to voice their grievances. But we’ve got to stay focused. Because Breonna Taylor’s killers are still not arrested. We’re still fighting for justice. We’ve got a lot of work to do. And this ain’t it. Stay focused.”

These remarks from Jenkins are obviously not going to sit well with many, because they seem awfully dismissive of what was an incredibly controversial post on the part of Jackson. Jackson has been a prominent voice in the Black Lives Matter movement, and early last month, he made an Instagram video for criticizing new teammate Drew Brees after Brees said kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful.
