There's something about Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterbacks. Nick Foles found himself converting deep balls at a fast rate, now Nate Sudfeld wants to join the club. In the Eagles' preseason against the Tennesee Titans, Sudfeld threw a 75-yard bomb to find wide receiver Marken Michel for a touchdown.

Sudfeld started the game in place for incumbent starter Carson Wentz. Behind him is former Cleveland Brown and Jacksonville Jaguar Cody Kessler and fifth-round selection Clayton Thorson.

Sudfeld is thoroughly entrenched as the Eagles' No. 2 quarterback. He has big shoes to fill and doesn't have the experience of a Nick Foles. To be fair, very few backups do. Despite his lack of experience in NFL games, he's confident in what he's done in the preseason. Sudfeld said on Wednesday, via The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane,

I get it, but I have played a lot in the preseason, and I’ve played a couple games in the regular season. The preseason doesn’t feel too much different. It’s almost more nerve-racking because guys are playing so hard because it’s for their livelihood. And there isn’t as much game planning. That can be a little more challenging.

The Washington Redskins drafted Sudfield in the sixth-round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Indiana. In 2017, the 6-foot-5 quarterback signed with the Eagles. Sudfeld has 2o completions (80% completion rate) for 156 yards and a touchdown through his career. The preseason will be a vital time for him to progress, as hopefully, Wentz will force him to sit out most of 2019.

But, if he doesn't, at least the Eagles know he can throw it deep.
