Kung Fu Panda 4 had one obvious part missing throughout most of the film — The Furious Five.
Though they made a few brief snippets of The Furious Five, they weren't as prominently featured as they have been.
Director Mike Mitchell explained to Screen Rant a bit about the omission of the characters that play a significant part in the other films. A lot of it had to do with timing.
“We wanted to put so much into this film, but we knew we couldn't make a four-hour-long Oppenheimer Kung Fu Panda,” Mitchell said. “We all love The Furious Five. They're such cool characters, and they're such a part of the franchise, but they have been a big part of the story for part one, two, and three. We thought for this one we might take just a little bit of a break. I mean, we had a bunch of stories with them that just didn't fit into the film.”
“It's okay to take a break as long as we tell everyone at the end, ‘Man, they're still a big part of this world, and they're not going anywhere,'” he added. “I'm so glad that you recognized that it was important to us to really pull them in and show everyone that we love The Furious Five. I've always thought maybe there's even a spinoff with just the Furious Five. There's so many characters, theyr'e such rich characters and they have such cool fighting techniques; they work so well together and they're so interesting. Each one is a different character that there's just tons of story to tell in this world.”

What is Kung Fu Panda 4 about?

You're in for a treat if you haven't seen Kung Fu Panda 4 yet.
The movie's official logline reads: “After three death-defying adventures defeating world-class villains with his unmatched courage and mad martial arts skills, Po, the Dragon Warrior (Jack Black), is called upon by destiny to…give it a rest already. More specifically, he's tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace.”
“That poses a couple of obvious problems,” it continues. “First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about the paleo diet, and second, he needs to quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position. Even worse, there's been a recent sighting of a wicked, powerful sorceress, Chameleon (Viola Davis), a tiny lizard who can shapeshift into any creature, large or small. And Chameleon has her greedy, beady little eyes on Po's Staff of Wisdom, which would give her the power to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.”
“So, Po's going to need some help. He finds it (kinda?) in the form of crafty, quick-witted thief Zhen (Awkwafina), a corsac fox who really gets under Po's fur but whose skills will prove invaluable. In their quest to protect the Valley of Peace from Chameleon's reptilian claws, this comedic odd-couple duo will have to work together. In the process, Po will discover that heroes can be found in the most unexpected places.”
Kung Fu Panda 4 will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on May 28.
