Most of what collectors see in the hobby are cards that feature basketball, baseball, and football stars. Even if that's the case, a good amount of growth can be seen among those who are into Formula One, and racing in general. Case in point, this graded Lewis Hamilton card that just broke the all-time record and became the most expensive F1 card after being auctioned by Goldin.

In a tweet shared by Goldin, a 2006 Futera Grand Prix Next rookie card of Lewis Hamilton was auctioned off for a record-breaking $312,000 price tag. The said piece of memorabilia, which has now become the most expensive F1 card, is authenticated by PSA and encased in a slab with a grade 9. This is the highest graded card of its kind with only a population of one so far.

Hamilton, the seven-time World Drivers' champion, appears on the said card, which dates a year before he made his Formula One debut with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. The legendary racer's profile is placed prominently next to an image of him driving.

Heading on over to eBay, the most expensive F1 card that can be found within the platform's sold listings is Hamilton's 2020 Topps Yellow Printing Plate One of One encased in an authenticated PSA slab without any grade. The said Hamilton card sold for $50,000. Surprisingly, a PSA 9 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire card of Max Verstappen also sold earlier this year for the same amount of $50,000.

With Hamilton's rookie card going off at an insane price during Goldin's last auction, it isn't hard to imagine this part of the hobby catching fire down the road. For now, expect the racers' stock in the card market to become hotter when the new F1 season starts soon.
