The Atlanta Falcons and Julio Jones have been negotiating a new contract for the veteran wide receiver this offseason. Both sides may be close to coming to an agreement, as Jones' agent is looking to complete a new deal with Atlanta soon.

Jimmy Sexton, Jones' agent, is on his way to Atlanta to meet with the organization in hopes to land a new contract for his client. Throughout the whole process, the Falcons' All-Pro wideout has seemed confident that a deal will get done.

Unlike some of his contemporaries, Jones decided not to hold out from the team during the offseason. He has been very active with the team during training camp. Falcons' president Rich McKay has appreciated the way that Jones has handled his contract situation.

“It’s really different than any typical negotiation,” McKay said on the Falcons’ pregame show on 92.9 FM The Game, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “The thing about Julio is that he’s the ultimate professional. He’s really tried to handle it the right way. He’s been in. He’s worked hard. He’s ready to go.”

Entering 2019, Jones is due to make $9.6 million this season and $11.4 million in 2020. This year, the Falcons' big-play wide receiver is set to be the 15th highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL in terms of salary.

Therefore, Jones believes he deserves to be the highest-paid player at his position. With the level of consistency he has played with in his career, he has a point. Thomas Dimitroff, the Falcons GM, has said that they are prepared to make him the wealthiest wideout in the league.

Recently, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was given a five-year, $100 million extension to make him the richest receiver in the NFL. That label may not last long after his NFC South counterpart in Jones gets paid.
