Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan released a statement regarding the death of Rayshard Brooks who was shot by police in Atlanta last Friday night. In a statement posted on Twitter, Ryan said he spent the weekend trying to wrap his head around the death of Brooks, but he couldn't, because Brooks should still be alive.

“I spent the weekend trying to wrap my head around the killing of Rayshard Brooks,” the Falcons veteran posted on Twitter. “To be completely honest, I can’t. Rayshard Brooks should be alive — end of story. We cannot continue to lose lives due to police brutality.

“Atlanta, I see you, I hear you and I’m taking action with my Fund. I’m with you more than ever as we take the next steps in the fight against police brutality and systemic racism. We can and will Rise Up.”

The Falcons star is one of many to lend their name to, well, everything happening around the country.

Brooks was found asleep in his car in a Wendy's parking lot by police. He admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests. When the officers went to arrest him, a scuffle happened, and Brooks ended up with one of the cops' tasers. As he was running away, Brooks was shot by the officer.

For years blacks have been speaking out about the racial injustices happening in America, but this is a big change front facing people in prominent positions, specifically white people, like Matt Ryan speaking out.

The Atlanta Falcons gunslinger will enter the upcoming NFL season as will most players; without knowing what waits ahead.
