New Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley has opened up about proving his worth this upcoming season. In a conference call on Friday, Gurley expressed that now is the time to build his legacy by performing at as high a level as possible:

“Man, I just have fun, man … I've been doing this for almost 20 years. Each year, you gotta prove yourself … It don't matter if you made an All-Pro or a Pro Bowl the year before…don't nobody care about what you do in this league; you gotta prove yourself each week; you gotta prove yourself each year.

“I've been doing this for a long time. I've seen plenty come and plenty go. And that's practically how the game goes. So you want to leave your mark while you can, and definitely try to be the best you can. That's why I picked the Falcons — to be able to create my legacy, to try to be the best player I can be.”

Gurley was released by the Los Angeles Rams amidst declining play following the 2019 season. In 2018, Gurley suffered a knee injury and hasn’t looked liked the same player since.

Nevertheless, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has said that he is not concerned about Gurley’s knee issues. Additionally, he said that he’s “very comfortable” with the state of Gurley’s knee, despite him not yet passing his physical.

If Gurley can return to the player he was before his knee injury, the Falcons will certainly be an offensive threat. Gurley has rushed for at least 1,100 yards in three of his five seasons and has totaled 70 touchdowns.
