The Atlanta Falcons are getting awfully thin at running back after Devonta Freeman had a mental lapse in the third quarter of Sunday's game. Freeman was ejected for throwing a punch at Los Angeles Rams' Aaron Donald.

Both Freeman and Donald were tangled up after Cory Littleton made an interception on the play. Then, the Falcons running back threw a punch and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year wasn't fond of him doing that.

First and foremost, you have to wonder what goes through your head to want to fight Donald. At 5-foot-8, nearly 200 pounds, Freeman is giving up about five inches in height and 80 pounds to the Rams interior lineman. In light of that, following Freeman's punch, Donald proceeded to lift the running back off the ground as if he was a child.

Regardless, the decision to hit Donald cost the Falcons as a flag was thrown and Freeman was removed from the game. With Freeman heading to the locker room, the Falcons only have two running backs that are remaining on the roster.

Earlier in the game, Ito Smith left on a cart after injuring his head and neck on a scary play. Smith was ruled out for the game and the backfield duties were left to Freeman.

Now, Brian Hill and Kenjon Barner will see an increased workload to finish the game. Altogether, both Hill and Barner have a combined one start in the NFL. Things are beginning to unravel in Atlanta each and every week.
