Formula 1 action took a wild turn in the very first lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas broke away too late and crashed into McLaren's Lando Norris. With everyone still positioning themselves after the waving of the checkered flag, there was a lot of collateral damage in the collision.

The incident knocked back both Red Bulls in Max Verstappen and Checo Perez, with Perez ultimately retiring from the race entirely. Verstappen, meanwhile, lost some body work in the melee.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll were also forced out early. Lando Norris, who was the first to get hit, was eventually deemed out of the Hungarian Grand Prix as well.
The crash leaves Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton both without their teammates as the F1 race resumes.

They’re beavering away on Verstappen’s car to great effect, the Dutchman himself looking stern and anxious behind his mask. A hell of a test of temperament to come for him. Both he and Hamilton will be driving without teammates from here on in, both Perez and Bottas falling victim to that first corner carnage.
