Seven-time Formula 1 world champion and Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton reacts to losing P1 to Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the United States Grand Prix.

After decent practice sessions,  Hamilton still qualifies behind championship-leader Verstappen as the Dutchman is two-tenths quicker. This year ends the streak of Mercedes garnering pole position at Austin, Texas, since the hybrid turbo era began in 2014.

Hamilton, of course, wished that he ended qualifying on top of his nemesis, but Red Bull was able to take advantage of their searing pace throughout the weekend.

“I gave it everything today,” said Hamilton. “It was a bit of struggle through qualifying. From P1 onwards we fell back a bit, and those guys were incredibly quick through qualifying so I was happy with my last lap.”

“It’s an amazing circuit, but it’s got even bumpier and trickier to ride through. It’s got more character with those bumps, so I hope they don’t change too much,” the Formula 1 champion shared.

Still, the British star aims to put on a show on Sunday, with fans anticipating an intense clash on Turn 1.

“Of course there’s always areas we can improve but I think that was pretty much everything we had and so we’ll just work as hard as we can tomorrow. There’s good positioning tomorrow and hopefully it will be a good race down to Turn 1.

“[My] mindset is to win the race and to give these guys [the fans] the best racing they’ve seen,” he added.

Verstappen currently holds a six-point lead with just six races to go—searching for his first Formula 1 title.
