FS1’s Skip Bayless, a week after bashing Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, gets contract extension
Veteran journalist and FOX Sports personality Skip Bayless had been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent weeks. Bayless made insensitive remarks about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott after Prescott detailed his own struggles with mental health following the death of his brother.
The comments exposed Bayless to tons of scrutiny on social media, both from athletes as well as some of Bayless’ peers in the media.
Bayless seemed to offer something of an apology on “Undisputed” the next day, though he did not speak about Prescott, specifically.
The network issued a statement saying it did not condone Bayless’ words, but—just a week later—it seems FOX has given Bayless a raise.
Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported FOX is working on a lucrative contract to extend Bayless:
Bayless’ new deal is not finalized yet, but he’s expected to get a slight raise on his $6 million annual salary in a new contract extension.
McCarthy clarified nothing is finalized, but there is a sense of urgency with Bayless’ contract set to expire.
It is worth noting Bayless recent comments seemed to stall talks (via McCarthy):
Networks typically lock up their top on-air talents months — or even years — before their deals expire, to make sure they don’t hit the free agent market.
However, the recent controversy involving Bayless’ comments about Prescott put a major bump in negotiations, said sources.
Still, it appears Bayless will still cash in on his brash and controversial persona, despite the backlash he received following the comments about the Cowboys star and the mental health of athletes and more.
