Late last night, esports organization Team Vitality announced big moves regarding their roster for the upcoming League of Legends Championship (LEC) Summer 2022 Split.
The first statement pertained to their now ex-jungler, Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek, as well as some words from their League of Legends Head Coach Louis-Victor “Mephisto” Legendre.
“As we reflect on the LEC Spring Split, we admit that we did not live up to all the expectations we as a team, and the V.Hive community, had for us. But we are keeping eyes on our goal to have a successful Summer Split, and to qualify for Worlds 2022.
In order to reach our goal, one of the changes we will be making going into the Summer split is that Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek will no longer be an active member on the starting roster. Selfmade is an incredibly talented player and well liked within the team, but League of Legends is a complex game with many different playstyles that have to come together. When two different playstyles can't be mixed well enough it is important to be able to adapt and try new options.
‘Roster changes are never easy, but after evaluating our Spring Split with all of the players, the Team Vitality coaching and team staff felt that the jungle role had the best potential for success if we were to try something new. I want to thank Selfmade for all of his contributions to the team, and I wish him nothing but the best in his future,' Mephisto said. ‘Selfmade has been an integral member of the team and we are very thankful for all his contributions to the teams and interactions with our fans. We believe that Selfmade will be able to shine as the talented player he is on another team, and we will be working closely together with Selfmade to make sure that he lands on a team where he can continue to succeed.'”
In the LEC Spring 2022 Split, Team Vitality had a great roster coming in. Unfortunately, they had an unimpressive split, finishing the regular season only tied for 5th place with EXCEL Esports, and bowing out in the Losers' Round 2 of the Playoffs Bracket.
Replacing Selfmade will be Kang “Haru” Min-seung, member of the Worlds 2017 Championship roster of Samsung Galaxy. As a substitute jungler, the org also brought in Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo. Previously rumored to be headed towards NA, Bo's agreement with some LCS teams seems to have gone sour, and instead landed him in Team Vitality.
The second announcement from Team Vitality officially welcomes both Haru and Bo to the team. :
“Finding a replacement jungler was no easy task, and we studied many different players to get the right fit. We believe we have found that fit with the World Championship winner Kang “Haru” Min-seung joining us in Team Vitality*.
Mephisto gave some context on this decision. ‘I watched Haru play over 30 scrim games to have an informed opinion both in practice and in official games. I trust that he will be able to come in and impact our midgame to lead to more victories and success'
Article Continues BelowAlongside Haru we are also announcing the signing of Zhou “Bo” Yang-bo. We are really excited about the superstar potential Bo has as a jungler. We are bringing him in now as a substitute jungler to give him the time he needs to acclimate to a new country, culture and a different language. We have huge trust in his ability as a jungler, and believe that we can help him grow and shine on Team Vitality in the future.
In the end we want to thank all the Team Vitality Hive for your continued support. We have complete faith in our coaching staff and team of players we have put together, and we can't wait to show you all what we can do in the Summer Split!”
The follow-up post noted that Haru and Bo signing to Team Vitality is pending Riot approval.
Currently, Selfmade is listed as inactive in the Team Vitality roster, and no official announcements has been made indicating which team he will be playing for next Split. It seems the rest of the Team Vitality League of Legends roster will not be receiving any changes, and so they will play the split with the following roster:
- Top lane: Barney “Alphari” Morris
- Jungle: Kang “Haru” Min-seung
- Jungle (sub): Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo
- Mid lane: Luka “Perkz” Perković
- Bot lane: Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság
- Support: Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis
