This month we'll see the release of one of Xbox's biggest games ever, as well as the yearly release of NBA 2K and the new EA Sports FC. It's a month that other publishers completely avoided, or if not possible, delayed or moved their releases by a week or so, just so they don't compete with Starfield. And of course, we also have the last Assassin's Creed of this era. Here is our list of the Top 10 New Games of September 2023.
Top 10 New Games of September 2023
10. Gloomhaven
Release Date: September 18, 2023
Developed By: Saber Interactive
Published By: Twin Sails Interactive
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Video game adaptations of tabletops are a hot thing right now, so it's only timely for the console version of Gloomhaven to hit this month. As a precaution, however, regardless of how well-made the PC version was when it was released several years ago, this one is produced and ported by different companies – so just take that as a heads up. Regardless, if you want a faithful adaptation of a beloved tabletop game on your consoles and quite the challenging kind of strategy RPGs, then Gloomhaven arrives just in time for you to enjoy it.
9. Monster Hunter Now
Release Date: September 14, 2023
Developed By: Niantic
Published By: Capcom
Platforms: Android, iOS
Here's a wild thought: What if you can meet the monsters of Monster Hunter while you're on your morning commute to work or school? Well, Monster Hunter Now is exactly that, as the popular monster hunting game gets the Pokemon Go treatment as Niantic gives it its own mobile augmented reality game. Can you find all of the monsters outdoors and collect them all for your glossary? Get hunting.
8. Eternights
Release Date: September 12, 2023
Developed By: Studio Sai
Published By: Studio Sai
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5
When you're facing the end of the world, would you still have time for love? Eternights is an action video game that is all about dating with the apocalypse as a backdrop. The impending end of the world only makes romance more thrilling as you get pressed to choose how you spend your last moments. In this game, you will find a cast of five quirky and loveable characters who you can romance as you scavenge and do dungeon crawling, complete with fully animated 2D cutscenes.
7. Disney Speedstorm
Release Date: September 28, 2023
Developed By: Gameloft
Published By: Gameloft
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch
Getting to play as Disney characters in a go-kart game is definitely a strong proposition for younger audiences, but Disney Speedstorm hit softly when it went into Early Access earlier this year. Hopefully, new content and upgrades to the gameplay will make the game a better pick-up when it finally releases in full on PC and consoles this month, so that we all can enjoy finishing races as our favorite Disney characters. Maybe bring in some guest Final Fantasy characters as well to give this game an extra Kingdom Hearts flair, huh, Gameloft?
6. Lies of P
Release Date: September 19, 2023
Developed By: Round8 Studio
Published By: Neowiz
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X
Pinnochio is in his darkest role yet – as the main character in a Soulslike game heavily inspired by Bloodborne. Play through this twisted version of the classic fairytale set in the fallen city of Krat, as Pinnochio strives to become human. Tying into Pinnochio's penchant for lying, Lies of P also features interconnected procedural quests that play out depending on how you lie, affecting the ending that you could get at the end of the game.
5. Payday 3
Release Date: September 21, 2023
Developed By: Starbreeze Studios, OVERKILL Software
Published By: Prime Matter
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
After a long absence, Payday is back with its third installment. The crew is literally back together as the multiplayer coop heist shooter features the same robbers from the original Payday crew for one last massive heist.
4. Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis
Release Date: September 7, 2023
Developed By: Square Enix
Published By: Square Enix
Platforms: Android, iOS
As we wait for the bigger Final Fantasy VII release later this year, we're getting a smaller release on smartphones in the form of Ever Crisis, and with it, we'll be able to run through the complete Final Fantasy VII saga in a recreated role-playing video game experience optimized for mobile devices. Covering the entire story of Final Fantasy VII and extended material, fans will be able to relive the highs and lows of Final Fantasy VII and follow their favorite characters from Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core in episodic installments.
3. EA FC 24
Release Date: September 29, 2023
Developed By: Electronic Arts
Published By: Electronic Arts
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch
EA wasn't daunted when it broke up with FIFA and lost the license to produce official FIFA games. After all, EA has been making this game for years and there's no one to challenge their dominance in football games, whether we like it or not. After all, where is PES now? Where is the new FIFA game? Whether it ends up being good or not, EA Sports FC 24 will still be the pinnacle of football sports games until a new challenger comes around. As a silver lining, hopefully, this means EA was forced to actually make a new game from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch instead of giving poor Nintendo fans yet another rehash “legacy” version of the game.
2. NBA 2K24
Release Date: September 8, 2023
Developed By: Visual Concepts
Published By: 2K
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch
While many would scoff at NBA 2K24 cynically as just another NBA 2K game, early previews of the game have already shown that Visual Concepts and 2K put in a lot of work in tweaking and re-imagining the game's modes to make them more streamlined and as a response to fan feedback throughout the years. This game will get the biggest changes on NBA 2K games for a while, but we don't know yet if they are for the better or worse once we actually get to play the game in the next several games. Still, it's refreshing to see 2K actually changing things up rather than leaving things stale. Hopefully, this entry is a fitting tribute to The Black Mamba.
1. Starfield
Release Date: September 6, 2023
Developed By: Bethesda Softworks
Published By: Bethesda Game Studios
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X
And finally, we end our list with this year's highly-anticipated release of the Xbox exclusive Starfield, a game that has been leaving many fans salivating for several years now. From the creators of Fallout 4 and Skyrim, this is Bethesda's next big project, taking the open-world to a whole new field by allowing players to explore multiple planets and taking players to a much bigger stage for their role-playing experience. While there are a lot of expectations for this game, Bethesda's already done the feat of delivering on a huge project that could have over encumbered other studios to bankruptcy. Now, we'll see if Starfield is actually worth all the hype that everyone has given it over the past several years, or if it's the next big flop next to Fallout 76.
