Garena Free Fire, 2019’s most downloaded mobile game with over 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store, will soon have its own anime adaptation as announced by its game publisher and developer Garena.

Garena Is Making A Free Fire Anime Adaptation

In a press release, Singaporean game developer and publisher Garena reveals that they will be producing an anime adaptation for one of their highest-grossing mobile game titles.

“Garena Online Private Limited and Kadokawa Corporation have announced the production of an anime adaptation of Garena Free Fire, a popular mobile game developed and published by Garena, through joint investment,” Garena’s press release reads.

Kadokawa Qingyu, a subsidiary of the Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa Corporation, will be co-producing the Free Fire anime adaptation alongside a Japanese anime production studio.

At the moment, there is not much information regarding the Free Fire anime as it is still in the early stages of production. This was corroborated by Garena’s PR & Communications when we reached out to them.

At the time of this article’s writing, Free Fire is currently attending the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, which runs from May 21, 2024 to May 23, 2024, where Garena’s licensing team is engaging with brands interested in participating in the anime.

Mixed Reception on Garena Free Fire’s Anime Adaptation

For many, Garena Free Fire getting its own anime adaptation was not on any of our bingo cards this year. As such, the general community of both fans of the game as well as the anime industry had mixed feelings about it. Here are some of their mixed reactions:

“Say what now? That? What? This can’t be real at all,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) exclaims.

“Ooh [the Garena Free Fire anime] could be interesting 🤔,” another user thinks.

“I love this game [and I] can’t wait to watch this the story and characters are really amazing,” says another user.

Meanwhile, other users are quick to shoot down the anime before it even has the chance to fly.

“Solid 2/10,” one user succinctly rates.

“Looks like a solid 2.5,” another user rates it just a bit more.

“They be making anime of off anything💀,” another user comments.

With all of that said, Garena Free Fire’s anime adaptation seems to have split the general anime enthusiasts into two despite not having many details out yet.
