Gen.G continues their world-class level performance as they take down Leviatan in their first match in the Swiss stage of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai (2024 VCT Masters Shanghai).

The concurrent best team from South Korea took down the Latin American team in three games during their first series in the 2024 Masters Shanghai.

Gen.G initially lost the first game on Icebox, losing 13-7 to Leviatan. After that, they then proceeded to reverse sweep the series, winning the second game on Lotus 13-5 and the third game on Breeze 13-7.

In a pre-recorded interview shown during the middle of the match, Gen.G's Kim “t3xture” Na-ra admits Leviatan's Erick “aspas” Santos is the better duelist. Looking at their stats during this series, that statement is indeed true, especially when you compare their stats side by side.

The former world champion and star duelist for Leviatan was a thorn in Gen.G's side. For the entire series, Aspas secured a 54/40/7 compared to T3xture's 45/41/7. Although he had a rough outing on Lotus, going just 12 kills as Raze, Aspas on his Jett terrorized Gen.G with 21 kills each on Icebox and Breeze.

Meanwhile, T3xture had a slow start in the series. On Icebox, he was Gen.G's bottom fragger with only 8 kills and three assists. Thankfully, he picked up his slack and had a near 30-kill performance in the next game, going 26/10/1 on Raze in Lotus. His Jett on the final game had a respectable 11/14/3.

Leviatan Wakes Up Early and Devours Gen.G in Icebox

Leviatan drew the first blood in their series against Gen.G in Masters Shanghai. They had a 7-5 lead going into the second half and eventually ended the game 13-7 in just eight rounds after halftime.

Leviatan's winning performance in this game was built on Aspas and his Jett's 21-kill performance. Besides Aspas, Ian “tex” Botsch also had a 20-kill game as he recorded 20/11/9 as Killjoy.

As for Gen.G, the entire went under 15 kills for the entire game. Their highest kill count came from Kim “Meteor” Tae-o with 14 kills which was followed by Kim “Lakia” Jong-min's 13, Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom's 10, Kim “Karon” Won-tae's nine, and T3xture's mere eight kills.

Gen.G Extends Series on Lotus

Even though they lost the first game on Icebox, Gen.G was quick to pick up themselves to win in their own map pick. The South Korean squad vanquished Leviatan on Lotus 13-5.

To start the second game, Gen.G ended the first half 7-5 in their favor. From there, they simply had an easy cruise toward the finish line, winning six rounds straight without dropping any rounds to Leviatan.

Gen.G Wins It on Breeze

Having a confidence boost from the previous game, Gen.G secured Breeze by defeating Leviatan 13-7.

Gen.G had a great first half on Breeze, going 8-4 to finish their attacking half. In the second half, Gen.G lost three rounds total before closing the game in the 20th round.

Despite admitting Aspas was the better player, T3xture made sure the lone Brazilian representative in Masters Shanghai knew he was just as good as him. In a poetic fashion, T3xture closed Breeze by killing Aspas last with an Operator, thereby winning the game and therefore the series for Gen.G.

Having won their first game, Gen.G shares a winning record with G2 and FunPlus Phoenix in the Swiss stage of the 2024 Masters Shanghai. Meanwhile, Leviatan joins T1 and FUT Esports as the teams with a 1 loss blemish on their records.
