Free agent point guard George Hill came into the offseason looking for a max contract as his next deal, but things haven't started off as expected.

Hill's two main choices were either to remain with the Jazz or look at the place where his career started, San Antonio.

While Utah's main focus is trying to retain Gordon Hayward,  a deal was struck with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio for a 1st round pick.

That deal made re-signing Hill less likely, so conversations shifted to the Spurs on Friday evening. Not long after the moratorium began, Shams Charania of The Vertical reported that talks have broken off between Hill and the Spurs.

The Spurs also re-signed backup guard Patty Mills to a 4-year, $50 million contract, which closes the door on adding Hill to the roster.

Reports also indicate that the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks have made contact with Hill, but no agreements have been made.

The 31-year-old Hill is an unrestricted free agent who averaged 16.9 points 4.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game and is looking for his first double-figure salary increase.
