FIFA President Gianni Infantino is under investigation as a special prosecutor has launched criminal proceedings against the head of world football due to alleged dealings with Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber, according to Reuters.

The prosecutor has requested approval to open proceedings against Lauber, who offered to resign last week after a court concluded he covered up a meeting with Infantino and deceived his supervisors while his office investigated corruption surrounding FIFA's governing body.

The authority that oversees Switzerland's federal prosecutors said that special prosecutor Stefan Keller, who was appointed early in July to review criminal complaints against Infantino and Lauber, along with others involved, has found clues of criminal conduct related to their meetings.

Those possible infractions included abuse of public office, breach of official secrecy, “assisting offenders” and “incitement to these acts,” the supervisory authority for the office of the attorney general said in its statement, noting other criminal acts and proceedings could also be considered, according to The Associated Press.
