Coming off a disastrous loss, the New York Giants were able to bounce back against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles with a 13-7 victory in Week 12 action. It wasn't pretty, but Big Blue managed to do just enough in order for them to get a much-needed win on their home field.

As a result, the Giants improved to a 4-7 record, though they're still in last place in the NFC East. However, this win at least keeps their playoff hopes alive.

New York Giants Week 12 Takeaways

3. The offense under Freddie Kitchens still stunk

Former offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was recently booted out after a short stint with the Giants. Senior offensive assistant Freddie Kitchens was tasked to fill the vacated position.

In his first game as interim OC, the tenured coach didn't bring a completely new dynamic to the Giants' offense. Saquon Barkley may have ended the tilt with 40 rushing yards on 13 carries, but he couldn't really do much behind a subpar offensive line.

Wide receiver Kenny Golladay was also targeted more, though he couldn't haul in most of the passes thrown his way. He did end up with 50 yards on three receptions, but it wasn't that huge of a difference as compared to his previous outings under Garrett. Certainly enough, more plays are expected to be drawn for him, as he wasn't signed to a lucrative contract just to be a bystander on offense.

It may be too early to judge since it was only the first game for Kitchens as interim OC, but it seems like Giants fans can't really expect the team to run an entirely new offense moving forward. Surely, Big Blue will need more dynamic schemes under him if they want to win more games in the weeks to come.

2. It simply wasn't Philadelphia's day

Right from the get-go, the Eagles' offense didn't click as head coach Nick Sirianni opted to utilize the passing game more to begin the contest. Their failure to capitalize on opportunities in the red zone also haunted them as they found themselves on the brink of a shutout by the end of the first three quarters. The team wasn't able to get itself going until they finally got to run the ball, which eventually resulted in the lone TD that Philadelphia scored in the game.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts also misfired all throughout the contest due to the Giants' sticky defense, throwing for just 129 yards on 14-of-31 passing. With multiple errors as well as his inefficiency from the field, the passing game didn't get to materialize as both Jalen Reagor and DeVonta Smith ended Week 12 with meager outputs. Reagor, in particular, made some costly errors with two late drops that could have won the game.

After not getting production from their top weapons, Philadelphia failed to get any rhythm on offense, which eventually spelled doom against Big Blue this time around.

1. The Giants' defense stood proud

Without a doubt, New York's defensive rotation won them this contest. DC Patrick Graham and his men did a great job executing their game plan. The biggest contributor for them in Week 12 was safety Xavier McKinney, who led the unit with four total tackles along with an interception.

Linebacker Tae Crowder and cornerback Darnay Holmes also made life miserable for Hurts, as they both snagged interceptions against him. Safety Julian Love and nose tackle Austin Johnson both had a half-sack apiece against the Eagles QB to hinder the opposing offense from gaining any momentum.

Ultimately, credit has to go to the Giants' defense, which forced the Eagles' offense to rely on a passing game that failed to materialize all game long. If Graham's rotation continues to play this way for the rest of their campaign, they might have a shot at winning a handful of games before the end of the season and sneaking into the playoffs.
