The New York Giants have wiped the slate clean following a tumultuous 2017 NFL season. However, they will still be relying on quarterback Eli Manning to shoulder the offense moving forward.

It goes without saying that entering the final stretch of his illustrious career. According to Tom Rock of Newsday, Manning feels that age is relative in this day and age:

“Thirty-seven is not old,” Manning said. “I think 37 is young, so it’s all perspective.”

Although head coach Pat Shurmur insists that Manning will still be under center moving forward, he understands that nothing is ever set in stone.

“Obviously I have to prove that and do that every day and get on the field and make sure I’m making the right decisions, protecting the ball, making good throws and learning this offense quickly,” Manning said. “I think we’re off to a good start.”

It is encouraging to see that Manning is so optimistic about a potential resurgence in the 2018 NFL season. Furthermore, there is plenty of truth to his comments regarding age.

Although he may be entering his 15th season in the league, players have enjoyed the benefits of a prolonged career in recent years. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is coming off an MVP season at 40 years of age. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said he plans on playing into his forties.

Regardless, these teams have made it clear that the time has come for a contingency plan. The Giants have been linked to taking wither Penn State running back Saquon Barkley or NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, there are rumors that they could potentially take one of the top quarterback prospects to develop behind Manning as well.
