The New York Giants have gone the majority of offseason activities without wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on the field. Fortunately, he was still spotted taking part in some individual drills during mandatory minicamp.

While it is still early, quarterback Eli Manning is already liking what he sees. According to Rhett Lewis of NFL Media, Manning had an encouraging update on his star wideout:

“He looks great,” Manning. “He looks healthy.”

Manning added that he thinks the fresh start will do wonders for Beckham in the 2018 NFL season.

“I think last year, it was tough on him being injured and going through those things,” Manning said. “He wants to come out and have a big year, play well and get to scoring touchdowns and celebrating and having fun again. I think he misses that part of his life — the excitement of playing football and winning games, and enjoying that part of it.”

It goes without saying that New York's 2017 campaign was a disaster from start to finish. However, the year got progressively worse when Beckham suffered a fractured ankle that ended his season after just four games.

Plenty has happened within the Giants organization since then. There is a newfound optimism that the team can turn things around this season. Unfortunately, Manning may not be able to provide any more updates in the near future if Beckham's contract situation does not get worked out.

Despite his initial comments about not holding out, there has not been any reported movement on a new deal. Beckham has made it clear that he wants to be the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. That said, he may have to sit out of training camp if things do not get worked out over the next month.
