Hakeem Nicks may be finished producing on the NFL level, but how about taking a shot at the XFL?

That is exactly what the former New York Giants wide receiver is attempting to do, and he credits Giants quarterback Eli Manning for inspiring him to take that route:

“Eli was like, ‘Man, you’ve still got a step. Why don’t you see if you can still give it a shot? You’re still young enough,’” Nicks said after working out in what was essentially an XFL audition on Friday, according to James Kratch of NJ Advance Media. “All my friends are in my corner still, pushing me to play. They know I love the game of football. It is what it is.”

The combine-style workout took place at Montclair State University in New Jersey, and Nicks worked out for his old offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, who is now a head coach of the New Jersey/New York XFL team.

“I just want one last year to go at it and play before I get in my late 30s,” said Nicks. “I just want one last season, whether it be the NFL or the XFL. I’m not closing any doors. I just want one last year to play ball. This was the opportunity, so I came and showed out.”

Nicks last appeared in the NFL with New York in 2015, logging seven catches for 54 yards. That was actually his second stint with the Giants, as he spent the first five years of his career in New York before joining the Indianapolis Colts for one season in 2014.

Injuries derailed Nicks' career, as there was a time where he looked to be on his way to becoming one of the league's best wide receivers.

He helped the Giants win the Super Bowl during the 2011-12 campaign, hauling in 76 receptions for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns that season.
