New York Giants head coach Joe Judge knows that his job is “to listen” when others are talking on social justice issues. In an interview with Art Stapleton of North Jersey, the first-year head coach opened up about all things football and also social justice issues.

Judge said one thing he knows for certain is that when talking about social justice issues, he and others need to listen better. When they are listening they need to make sure they aren't getting defensive — but make sure they are open to everything that everyone else says.

As a man, I understand I don't have all the experiences as everybody else. More specifically, as a 38-year-old white guy, I don't have everybody else's experiences, and it's my job to listen. It's my job not to listen and respond. It's my job not to listen defensively. It's my job to listen to comprehend, and that's what we have to do. Just listen.

Judge also knows it's important to not assume what is going to say, rather really listen and take in every word.

When someone's talking, don't think about what you're gonna say – just listen. It's amazing how much more you find out.

Who knows how much success Judge will have on the field. But it's clear that he is doing everything in his power to be on the same page with the players. With the way the world is changing, more power is going to the players. And it's clear that coaches are going to need to adapt.
