The New York Giants stunk it up on Monday Night Football, losing 30-10 to the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers to fall to 3-7 on the season. Giants star running back Saquon Barkley was a non-factor, rushing just six times for 25 yards and catching six passes for 31 yards.

It was Barkley's first game back in over a month after missing time with an injury. It has been a disappointing career thus far for the former Penn State star. While Barkley had a monster rookie season for the Giants after going second overall in 2018, he hasn't come close to replicating those numbers (over 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns) in recent years due to injuries and New York's generally terrible play.

Making matters worse, though, is the fact that the Giants have a better record without him compared to when he has been in the lineup. New York is 1-5 with Barkley this season and 2-2 without him, and for his career, the team is 9-28 with him and 9-12 without him. That's not what you're hoping to see out of a No. 2 pick in the draft, and it only adds to the evidence that taking a running back that high in the draft is something of a folly.

The Giants are facing another lost season, and they have to think long and hard about Barkley's future with the franchise. He has one more season on his deal after this one before becoming a free agent in 2023. It's hard to see New York giving him a big extension given how things have played out, so perhaps a trade will be in order this offseason.

It would be a tough pill to swallow for the Giants after they took the gamble with him at No. 2 in 2018, but it's a decision they might just have to make.
