For much of the 2021 MLB regular season, there has been much uncertainty from many over whether the San Francisco Giants are contenders or pretenders. Amid much outside noise, the Giants simply continue to rack up wins.

The Giants picked up their 105th  victory of the season on Thursday in walk-off fashion. LaMonte Wade Jr. delivered a key game-winning hit against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the bottom of the ninth inning that cut the Giants' magic number to clinch the NL West to a mere two games.

Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner watched as Wade clinched the win for the Giants and sees that this script is all well too familiar to him.

As he noted after the game, Bumgarner is among those who well believe the Giants are the real deal this season.

“It's pretty crazy,” Bumgarner said. “It's pretty incredible to see. I know people have counted them out all year and a lot of people can't understand it and make sense of it, but I've been on that side when people are saying the same thing, and I know how dangerous the Giants are when they get in the postseason. I've obviously seen that a time or two. There's something about that uniform, I don't know.”

Bumgarner sure does know a thing or two about being counted out as a contender. The former Giants star was a catalyst behind San Francisco's trio of World Series wins in the last decade, which included the 3-1 series comeback win against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2012 NLCS and the run to the triumph in the 2014 season as a wild-card team.

The Giants still could reach history at this late stage in the campaign, as a sweep over the San Diego Padres in the final weekend of the regular season would see them become the fifth National League team ever to record at least 108 wins in a season.
