Things have quickly evolved around Odell Beckham Jr.'s long-term future with the the New York Giants in response to the latest controversy surrounding him in a viral video with what appear to be illegal substances.

This shifts the conversation toward the front office possibly entertaining trading their star wide receiver. However, Bob Glauber and Tom Rock of Newsday is reporting that it would be surprising to see the Giants follow through with moving on from Beckham Jr.

“I’d be very surprised,” a source told Newsday regarding a trade of Beckham this week.

On top of that, Giants co-owner Steve Tisch stated on Monday that extension talks with the 25-year-old have started and they are the premature stages of getting something worked out. It is the latest winding twist in what's becoming a complicated situation involving Beckham Jr.'s future in New York that could still go in a variety of directions.

The organization clearly is interested in keeping Beckham in the fold for the long haul, but what may become a hurdle is the kind of money they are willing to commit to him.

Odell has a strong desire to be one of the highest-paid players in the league at his position. This would likely require the organization to commit to a contract that would likely completely surpass the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans' recent five-year, $82.5 million deal.

There are reports stating that he hopes to become the first wide receiver to make $20 million a year on a contract that could push toward $100 million over the duration of the deal. However, more questions about his behavior could lead to apprehension on the Giants' behalf in agreeing to that type of money.
