New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made waves again Thursday night when he was seen leaving the field early before halftime of their 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants trailed 24-6 going into the half when Beckham headed toward the locker room with seconds remaining.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said Beckham was dehydrated and going to get an IV, and Beckham explained further, according to Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post.

“I was cramping … so I was trying to go get an IV,’’ Beckham said after the game. “Because the halftime break is really like five, 10 minutes [it’s actually 12 minutes], so if I can use a couple extra seconds to go in there and get an IV and be able to come back out … that’s really all it was.’’

While many were quick to jump on Beckham given all the drama already surrounding him, this at least seems like a reasonable excuse. Nothing was going to happen in those final seconds anyway, so getting a head start on halftime to get rehydrated is fine.

But this is Odell Beckham Jr. we're talking about here, and there will surely be plenty of people who won't give him the benefit of the doubt. That's especially true after his controversial comments before last week's last-second loss to the Carolina Panthers. Some of his actions have given off a vibe that he's upset about his situation in New York despite just signing a massive new contract, and episodes like this will only add fuel to the fire. As will images of him punching an industrial fan on the sidelines out of frustration.

Beckham actually had his best performance of the season in Week 5, but he only had six catches for 44 yards on Thursday as the Giants fell to 1-5.
