It's interesting. Never attending OTAs. Living offseason life on his own terms as opposed to falling in line like that good New York Giants soldier.

Why would anything change this time around? It's almost like Odell Beckham Jr. is looking for a brand-new long-term deal.

He's in the building. During Day 1 of Jints 2018 offseason voluntary workouts, OBJ is in line and doing his thing with this teammates. In fact, he's flipping the script entirely and doing everything he can to earn that new deal despite little movement having been made, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

“I wouldn't say sense of urgency. The contract will get done when it's supposed to get done,” co-owner John Mara said earlier this month, before adding this isn’t the Giants’ first contract negotiation. “I think that is the [general manager] Dave Gettleman line. I think I'm going to adopt that. All spring, all summer, as long as it takes.”

A number of factors are at play concerning Beckham Jr.'s sudden surge of voluntary positivity.

First and foremost, the contract remains at the top of the list. Secondly, the Giants are entering the first offseason with a brand new regime.

Dave Gettleman is the new general manager while Pat Shurmur is in East Rutherford and on the field at this very moment while working with his players. Not screwing up that first impression would be wise for the superstar wideout.

Lastly, this specific offseason hasn't bee a kind one for the kid. There was the “pizza and powder” video accompanied by an assault lawsuit pertaining to his team physically abusing the claimant.

Beckham Jr. is entering the final year of a fifth-year rookie deal while simultaneously attempting the first comeback of his career (after a season-ending injury in 2017 cut his season 12 game shy of 16).

Despite the entire narrative, Odell Beckham Jr. is in Northern New Jersey doing his thing in voluntary action.
