Tom Coughlin is no longer with the New York Giants, but Eli Manning is still on his mind. After all, he and Manning have partnered in propelling the Giants to two Super Bowl wins in 2007 and in 2011.

So when news broke out that the Giants are benching Manning in favor of backup Geno Smith for at least Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders, Coughlin felt he needed to say something.

Speaking with 1010XL on Tuesday, Coughlin, the current Jacksonville Jaguars executive vice president of football operations, made it clear that he is not a fan of the Giants’ stunning decision to sit Manning, per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Coughlin is barely the only one who is not taking this recent development in the Giants’ camp well. Several have voiced their dislike of this move, though it was mentioned by New York earlier that Manning was consulted by Giants head coach Ben McAdoo before making a judgment.

Granted, Manning hasn’t been playing well this season, yet the idea that his streak of 210 consecutive games started will be broken this week seems too much for most football observers to take.

In any case, the Giants have another decision to make in the offseason with regards to Manning and the direction they want to take in the quarterback position.
