The buzz surrounding Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants has been growing for the last few days. Reports have come out about the Giants considering Barkley a “near-perfect” prospect and “all signs” point to him ending up in the Big Apple.

Count Todd McShay in with the growing chorus of Barkley-to-the-Giants believers. The ESPN draft expert, who also believes the Jets are going to take Baker Mayfield at No. 3 overall, thinks it’s all but inevitable that the running back becomes a part of Big Blue.

Per Tom Rock of Newsday:

McShay: I've heard very strongly that there are important people in the building who believe in Saquon Barkley and being a physical, run-first team. Barkley can be the face of the team for the next 10 years. “It feels inevitable that Saquon Barkley is going to be a NY Giant.”

With the Browns widely tipped to draft a quarterback at No. 1, the Giants will likely have their shot to draft Barkley at No. 2. And with all the reports circulating about how high they are on Barkley, it seems as if they may actually decide to draft him even if Sam Darnold remains on the board.

McShay also notes that the Giants want to emphasize being more of a run-first team, which means picking a game-changing running back like Barkley makes a lot of sense for them. But Barkley is also a capable pass-catcher who can also provide another dynamic receiving threat along with Odell Beckham Jr.

With just over a week left before the draft, it’s hard to discern what’s actual fact and what’s fiction, especially with “inevitabilities” like this. But if Barkley does go to the Giants, they'll get someone who by all accounts is a very good player.
