The Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints joined the NFL offseason's trade frenzy when the two teams agreed to a deal on Monday involving eight NFL Draft picks. The Eagles acquired a 2022 first-round pick, third-round pick, and a seventh-round pick as well as a 2023 first round pick and a 2024 second-round pick. New Orleans hauled in two 2022 first round picks and a sixth-rounder in the trade. The move is more of a forward-thinking one for the Eagles while the Saints are clearly trying to maximize their chances in this year's NFL Draft. With so many moving parts in the deal, it's difficult to assess who got the better end of it. In fact, it may take a few years before there really is a clear winner of the deal. That said, it's time to release our trade grades for the Eagles-Saints deal.

Eagles: A-

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman deserves credit for the trade with the Saints. Many have been clamoring for the Eagles to take a big swing at a quarterback this offseason. While that never seemed like a real possibility for Philadelphia, Eagles fans still got their big trade, just not the way they expected it. However, the move is a smart one for both the present and the future. Armed with two picks in this year's draft, the Eagles can select from a talented player pool to help put the best team possible around starter Jalen Hurts, who the franchise committed to this year.

Philly also now has two first-rounders in next year's draft- and a second-rounder in the 2024 NFL Draft. With the 2023 draft shaping up to be a better one for quarterbacks, the Eagles have set themselves up nicely if Hurts falters in year three. Or, Philly can continue to improve the team around Hurts if he proves even more in year three. The Eagles like Hurts and plan to give him the best possible chance to succeed in 2022 and beyond. However, the team now has a clear backup plan in place should things not go their way. That's smart team-building by Roseman.

Saints: B+

Many have lambasted the Saints for getting “fleeced” in this trade. While New Orleans clearly didn't get the better of Philadelphia in the deal, they still ended up with an extra first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, opening up several possibilities. The Saints can use both of those picks to improve the team around Jameis Winston or they use the two picks to move inside the top-10 to select any prospect who jumps out to them. New Orleans could also use one of the picks to select a quarterback. Given where this Saints team was last year- 9-8 and just out of reach of a playoff spot- adding two young prospects to a near-playoff team sounds like a recipe for further success in 2022. While it cost a fair amount of future draft capital to get it done, the Saints have a good chance of fielding a competitive team once again in 2022.
