Memphis Grizzlies fans (and really, the whole basketball world) can breathe a sigh of relief for now with this latest update on Ja Morant's injury.

Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reported this encouraging update on Morant.

“Grizzlies’ Ja Morant has left knee sprain, per initial exams.”

Ja Morant had to exit their game against the Atlanta Hawks after he suffered a knee injury on a routine play. The Grizzlies star suddenly came up limping and was in visible pain after tweaking his knee. What worried fans the most was the fact that it was a non-contact injury, which often led to scary injuries like Achilles or ACL tears.

Obviously, it's less than ideal for a budding superstar like Ja Morant to suffer any sort of injury. However, considering the fact that most were expecting a severe, career-altering injury, the Grizzlies star is lucky to only have a knee sprain. Obviously, more tests will need to be run in order to determine the severity and if there are any other damages, but this is already an encouraging sign for Morant.

Morant will likely miss significant time with this injury no matter the results of the final tests. Which is a shame, because he's been a treat to watch. The Grizzlies superstar has come into his own in his third year, posting MVP-level numbers while keeping the Grizzlies squarely in playoff contention.

Best of luck to Morant and the Grizzlies. He's been an absolute stud for the team this season, and losing him to injury would be a devastating blow to Memphis and the NBA fanbase in general.
