Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant just turned in his entry for block of the season. The reigning Rookie of the Year chased down what looked like an easy layup for New York Knicks stud RJ Barrett, and resulted in an emphatic stop from Morant.

Here's a look at Morant taking full advantage of his insane hops (h/t NBA on Twitter):

Barrett did a good job shaking off his defender on the fast break, but the fact that he had to slow down gave Morant the window he needed to swat that shot attempt. It came at a crucial juncture in the game too, with the Knicks trying to mount a comeback with just three minutes remaining in the final frame.

Not only was the Grizzlies-Knicks bout a contest between two teams with playoff aspirations in their respective conferences, but it also presented an individual matchup between two of the brightest young stars in the NBA today.

Both Morant and Barrett are in their second year in the league, and both players have done extremely well for their teams this term. For both the Grizzlies and the Knicks, how their respective young stars perform the rest of the way will have a significant impact on their postseason hopes.
