The Memphis Grizzlies lost a hard-fought battle to the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals. With the match coming down to the wire, Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant got a fairly decent look at the basket as time expired, but missed the layup that would have given Memphis the win. After the loss, Morant took the blame for his missed shot, explaining what went down in the final seconds of regulation, via Ohm Youngmisuk.

Morant kept it real and didn't try to downplay the situation, saying straight up, “I just missed the layup.” The Warriors managed to get multiple bodies in front of Morant as he drove to the basket for his final attempt at a game-winner, and while he got a decent chance from the left side, the layup crashed off the glass, culminating in a 1-0 lead for the Warriors.

While Morant was clearly disappointed with the result, he wasn't going to try to run away from the fact that he came up a bit short in the clutch moment. He knows it's a shot he'd make nine times out of 10, and didn't downplay that in the post-game. He may, however, regret having pulled out an early Griddy considering the Grizzlies ended up losing the game.

Morant was excellent for Memphis despite the loss. After a low scoring output from the superstar point guard in Memphis' first-round matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Morant bounced back with 34 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds in Game 1. He shot 14-for-31 from the field, including 4-for-11 from 3-point range across 38 minutes on the court.
