Before exiting his game against the Brooklyn Nets with a foot injury, Ja Morant set the Memphis Grizzlies franchise record for most points through a player's first three games of a season.

Per ESPN, Ja Morant's seven-point output propelled him to 79 points on the season.

In the Grizzlies' season-opener against the San Antonio Spurs, Ja Morant exploded for a career-high 44 points along with nine assists. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to guide his team to a victory.

In the following game, a loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Ja Morant dropped 28 points, three rebounds, and seven assists.

Ironically, the Grizzlies picked up their first win of the season despite Ja Morant exiting the game in the second quarter due to a sprained ankle. Last season's Rookie of the Year sustained the injury after attempting to block Nets' Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot's shot. He landed awkwardly on the forward's foot and grimaced in pain right after.

The 21-year-old hopped to the sidelines before collapsing next to his team's bench. He was subsequently wheelchaired out to the locker room and was ruled out for the game. He later returned to the Grizzlies bench wearing a protective boot. An x-ray revealed that Ja Morant did not suffer any fracture on his left ankle. But he's expected to go through an MRI on Tuesday.

More news on Ja Morant's status will come in the next few days. But it's safe to say that the team needs to double their efforts with their best player sidelined. The Grizzlies will next face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, followed by the Charlotte Hornets, then the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Grizzlies' young core will go through a test of attrition while also having to face quality opponents. Such is the grind of an NBA season and the reality of injuries. The relentless parade of every-other-night games will reveal what Morant's supporting cast is currently prepared to do, setting the table for how the Grizzlies can manage the rest of their season.
