Memphis Grizzlies super rookie Ja Morant almost completed what could have been the dunk of the year on Friday when he literally jumped over Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love.
After the Grizzlies succumbed to the Cavs, 107-104, the 20-year-old guard out of Murray State didn't elaborate much about the near highlight, simply claiming that Love was “in the way,” via Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
Despite nearly suffering the same fate as the infamous Frederick Weiss, Love has been quite a sport about it and even joked that he would take a medical leave after the near poster.
Morant made a name for himself with his speed and playmaking ability in his first 23 games for Memphis, but has also been showcasing his unreal athleticism as of late, adding numerous emphatic posters on his growing highlight reel.
Article Continues BelowAfter a slow start to his freshman year in the pros, the 6'3 guard has catapulted his way to the top of the Rookie Ladder, averaging 18.9 points, 6.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. He had an off night against the Cavs on Friday, especially in the fourth quarter when Cleveland made its run and managed to steal the victory.
Ja Morant finished with just eight points to go along with five boards and 11 assists. He only made 4 of his eleven field goal attempts and committed three turnovers. The growing pains continue for the rebuilding Grizzlies (10-19), who have lost six of its last 10 games.
Still, Morant already looks like a player they can build around in the coming years, especially after moving on from the Grit N' Grind era. With plenty of games left in the 2019-20 NBA regular season, Morant will still have plenty of chances to posterize defenders.
