Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant submitted his entry for “pass of the year” in the fourth quarter of their 113-109 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Morant delivered a sick behind the back dish to Jaren Jackson Jr., who was waiting underneath the basket for a supposedly easy finish at the rim. Unfortunately, the 2018 4th overall pick did not complete the play as Cavaliers forward Alfonzo McKinnie blocked him on the way up.

The Grizzlies forward later expressed on Twitter his regret on getting denied on the play.

Had JJJ finished that with a dunk or an easy layup, the Grizzlies rookie might just have the assist of the year in the bag. Unfortunately, McKinnie spoiled the party with a rather impressive defensive play for the Cavaliers.

Jackson Jr. needs to make sure he completes the play the next time Morant sets him up with another nasty pass in the future. And you just know it's going to happen sooner rather than later.

Morant is slowly becoming the new darling youngster of the NBA with his insane highlight plays that include sick passes like that one and eye-in-the-sky dunks and alley-oops like this:

Morant finished the night with another solid all-around outing. He dropped 16 points on an efficient 7-of-14 shooting to go along with five rebounds and eight assists.

Surely, the 2019 2nd overall pick is already one of the most exciting rookies of this class and is a front-runner for this season's Rookie of the Year plum.

The Grizzlies are one of the hottest teams in the league right now with a seven game winning streak. Over this stretch, Morant is averaging 19.3 points on an ultra-efficient 59.1 percent shooting, to go along with 5.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.3 steals.
