After seven years, the man allegedly responsible for the death of former NBA big man Lorenzen Wright has been arrested and charged.

Billy R. Turner, who was apprehended by authorities on Tuesday, was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Wright in 2010, as Katie Fretland, Daniel Connolly, Linda A. Moore and Yolanda Jones of The Commercial Appeal report.

“The Lorenzen Wright case has stayed in the public eye for many years,” Memphis police Director Michael Rallings said. “We said many times that we had never stopped investigating.”

Wright was the No. 7 overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft, which is generally considered one of the best draft classes in NBA history. He played 13 seasons in the NBA for five different teams, although he had his longest stint with his hometown team, the Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 8.0 points and 6.4 rebounds in 778 career games.

However, Wright suffered from personal and financial problems shortly after his career ended in 2009. He visited Memphis in 2010 and according to his ex-wife, he left his home on the evening of July 18 with drugs and an unspecified amount of cash as he got into a car with an unidentified individual.

Wright called 911 from his cellphone from a field near the TPC Southwind golf course minutes after midnight on July 19, 2010. His body was then found several days later, with the details of his death remaining a mystery until now.
