Despite all the fingers pointing at him as the main reason why David Fizdale was fired as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, Marc Gasol has maintained his claim of only finding out about it after the news broke out.

The 7-foot center admitted that he was able to speak to team owner Robert Pera, but did not ask for Fizdale to be removed. He then said, via Peter Edmiston of The Commercial Appeal, that the 39-year-old billionaire discussed to him the direction of the franchise as well, after informing Marc Gasol of the coaching change.

David Fizdale’s release caught many by surprise, as there were no talks about his job being in jeopardy even if they were on an extended losing streak. However, his decision to bench Gasol in the entire fourth quarter of their game on Sunday became a much talked-about topic, as the Spanish international told reporters that he was unhappy about it, which led to the speculations that he may have played a hand in Fizdale's exit.

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace also came to the defense of Gasol recently, saying that he thinks it’s unfair to call the center a “coach killer.”

Now that they have J.B Bickerstaff in charge of calling out the plays from the sidelines, the Grizzlies can only move forward from the surprising development. Their fans are also  hoping their team can put the controversy in the past, in order to start getting back to their winning ways.
