When news about David Fizdale getting fired by the Memphis Grizzlies came out, speculations quickly emerged on the real reason why the surprising development happened. Many quickly pointed their fingers to Marc Gasol for being a “coach killer,” especially after the head coach was relieved from duty only a day after he was benched, during their loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

However, the team’s general manager, Chris Wallace, feels it is unfair for the Spanish international center to be thought of as such, according to Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal. The Grizzlies already made it known that there was no mandate made by Gasol to choose between him and Fizdale, but many are still thinking he caused him his job.

For now, J.B. Bickerstaff will take over the head coaching duties for the Grizzlies, and will look to turn things around for the franchise, who have lost eight straight games. He will be calling the plays from the sidelines for at least until the remainder of the season.

It will be very interesting to see how Gasol will perform in their coming games, as the speculation could serve as a distraction to him. The Memphis faithful are hoping that will not be the case as they need him at his best and lead the team to another playoff appearance.
