It was nothing short of a disappointing first season with the Memphis Grizzlies for veteran forward Chandler Parsons that was marred by injuries that prematurely ended with knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus back in March.

Things have completely shifted in the right direction in his recovery with an extended offseason to focus on working his way back from the operation. According to Tim McMahon of ESPN, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace recently came away quite impressed by Parsons' progress with his overall health over the summer.

“They're impressed,” Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace says. “They say, first of all, his mobility is at a significantly higher level than it was last year at this time. Chandler also when we discuss his progress with him is very buoyant and upbeat about where he is. He feels that he has more lift, more explosiveness, better movement. This is really his first legitimate offseason in a couple of years.”

This is quite an encouraging sign for the Grizzlies given that the team had committed a max contract of four years worth $94.8 million last offseason to come in and be a major part of the puzzle. The 28-year-old has a chance to latch onto a significant offensive role this upcoming campaign as one of the primary scorers behind cornerstone pieces Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.

Throughout his first six years in the league, Parsons has shown the ability to be a dependable offensive option holding a career average of 13.6 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc. That said, the Grizzlies are likely going to take the precautionary route with working him back in the fold next season given his history of knee injuries.

Nonetheless, Parsons' progression in his recovery is a positive sign moving forward for Memphis with training camp now underway.
