The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly strongly considering trading center Marc Gasol to the Charlotte Hornets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Memphis made both Marc Gasol and Mike Conley available in late January as they made plans to begin the team’s rebuild around their 2018 draft pick, Jaren Jackson Jr. With their 2019 first round draft pick owned by the Boston Celtics — albeit protected 1-8 — it is in their best interest to refrain from battling their way back out of the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference.

As for Charlotte, Gasol would be an excellent addition to pair with All-Star point guard Kemba Walker. The 34-year-old center still has plenty to offer and is one of the more versatile bigs in the league. For the season, he is averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 steals per game. The three-time All-Star was also the defensive player of the year in 2012-13 and considered one of the best passing centers in the NBA.

With Cody Zeller experiencing some injury, help down low is exactly what the Hornets need. It is unclear what the Grizzlies would be getting in return. As they aim to use Gasol and Conley to add young talent or pick to the teams, names like Malik Monk, Miles Bridges, Frank Kaminsky, or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist could pop up, as well as some pick compensation.
