Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley says he almost got traded in his second season in the NBA.
Conley, speaking to local reporters on Wednesday for the first time since reports came out that Memphis is listening to trade offers for him and center Marc Gasol, said he's used to trade rumors because he was almost shipped out of town during his second year in the league.
“I almost got traded my second year in the league,” Mike Conley said. “So it's not new to me.”
Mike Conley has spent his entire NBA career with the Grizzlies. The lefty was the fourth overall pick in the 2007 Draft. However, it appears Conley's tenure with Memphis could be coming to an end soon.
Memphis is just 19-28 on the season. They have the second-worst record in the Western Conference. A full rebuild is likely in the works and Conley or Gasol could be headed to a new team.
In 46 games this year, Mike Conley is averaging 19.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from beyond the arc and 84.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Conley, 31, signed a lucrative five-year, $153 million deal with the Grizzlies back in 2016. He's making $30,521,115 this year, $32,511,623 in 2019-20, and has a 2020 early termination worth $34,502,130.
