The Cleveland Guardians had quite an injury scare during their home series finale against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.

During the eighth inning of the contest, Ramirez fouled a ball off of his right leg on a 2-2 count. The three-time All-Star was shown in clear pain after the foul ball, although he wound up staying in the game.

Ramirez would then go on to record an RBI single, but the call was later made by Guardians manager Terry Francona to remove the infielder from the game.

After the 4-2 loss to the Reds, Francona provided an update on Ramirez, where he noted that the third baseman is due for X-rays to further evaluate his injury.

“Pretty sore,” Francona said. “Hit above his pad, just below his knee. For him to react like that, pretty tough kid. He will get some X-rays, but he's sore.”

Ramirez has been quite a reliable player for the Guardians in previous campaigns. For one, he missed a mere 12 combined games over the past two seasons. The last time that he was sidelined for a significant amount of time came back in the 2019 campaign when a fractured hamate bone injury ruled him out for pivotal games over the second half of the season.

Ramirez is off to a stout start to the 2022 season, which has included logging 34 RBI through 35 games played. For now, his status is up in the air as to whether he will earn a start in Cleveland’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
