The Hawks are staying active in their offseason. According to a report from Michael Scotto of The Athletic, the Hawks have decided to waive big man Deyonta Davis.

Davis, now 22 years of age, signed a pair of 10-day contracts with the Hawks last season. He later earned a multi-year deal with the team. However, the 2019-20 portion of his contract was not guaranteed, which allowed Atlanta to remove him from their roster without penalty.

A former Mr. Basketball in Michigan, Davis played his collegiate ball at Michigan State, where he set a freshman record with 64 blocked shots. He was taken with the 31st overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft (Boston Celtics), but his draft rights were sent to the Memphis Grizzlies. He appeared in 98 regular-season games with Memphis, averaging 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 12.1 minutes. He also played in three playoff games during the 2016-17 season.

Davis has spent time in the NBA's G-League as well, serving stints with the Iowa Energy, Memphis Hustle and Santa Cruz Warriors.

In his nine appearances with the Hawks this season, Davis racked up averages of 4.0 points on 68.2 percent shooting from the field, and 4.0 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per outing.

Davis is a talented player, and the fact that he's still just 22 could make him an appealing target. Perhaps he'll sign with another team this summer.
