Atlanta Hawks forward Danilo Gallinari will miss multiple weeks after suffering right ankle sprain. According to ESPN's Marc J. Spears, Gallinari's injury and associated swelling will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Gallinari underwent an MRI on Saturday that confirmed the diagnosis.

In his 12th NBA campaign and first in Atlanta, Gallinari has played in just two games. He's scored 18 points in 28 minutes. Even without Gallinari, the Hawks have the top offense in basketball through one week, with a historically good 122.6 Offensive Rating. They've won four of their first five games.

Trae Young is leading the way, putting up 30.6 points and 8.0 assists per game on .466/.355/.909 shooting splits.

John Collins — who will have an even bigger role in Gallinari's absence — has excelled, too. The fourth-year forward is averaging 18.4 points and 7.4 boards per game on 58.3% shooting. Also, he's doing things like this:

In other words: besides Gallinari's injury, fun things are happening with the Atlanta Hawks.

Young forwards Cam Reddish and DeAndre Hunter will be asked to pick up the scoring load without Gallinari, and Bogdan Bogdanovic and Kevin Huerter will be even more essential as floor-spacing sharpshooters.

In 2019-20, Gallinari played a key role on an over-performing Oklahoma City Thunder squad that took the Houston Rockets to Game 7 of the first round in the bubble. Gallinari averaged 18.7 points per game in 62 contests last season.

The 32-year old signed a three-year, $61 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade with the Hawks in November. For his career, the well-traveled forward has averaged 16.1 PPG on 38.1% shooting from deep.
