The Atlanta Hawks inched a little closer to getting one of their most reliable players back from injury. According to an Associated Press report via USA TODAY, Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon has been given the green light to resume partaking in basketball activities after showing enough improvement in his recovery from a leg injury.

Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon has been cleared to resume basketball activities as he recovers from a stress reaction in his left tibia.

Dedmon has missed all of Atlanta’s past 14 games due to the said leg injury. The 28-year-old big man was last seen in an NBA regular season game playing against the Toronto Raptors in a 112-78 loss back on Nov. 25. Since then, the Hawks have been relying mostly on rookie John Collins, Miles Plumlee, and Ersan Ilyasova to provide muscle around the basket.

In 20 games played so far this season, Dewayne Dedmon has averaged 11.1 points per game and his 7.8 rebounds per contest remain highest on the team.

Unknown to many, Dedmon has an interesting stipulation in his contract with the Hawks that would net him an extra $900,000 in bonus if he manages to finish this season with at least 41 games played and if he averages 16 or more in total points, rebounds, and assists. So far, Dedmon is on pace to fulfil those requirements, but his health should remain as his top priority.
