Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins will be participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night, and in the lead-up to the event, he has been getting advice from two of the best dunkers to ever do it: Vince Carter and Dominique Wilkins.

ā€œYeah, I definitely asked for a lot of tips from Vince about the Dunk Contest, as well as Dominique,ā€ said Collins, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.Ā ā€œSo I'll definitely use those two guys as sort of like cheat sheets or whatever just to hopefully get an extra edge for tomorrow.ā€

Of course, Carter is Collins' teammate in Atlanta this season, as Carter plays out what will probably be the final year of an illustrious career.

Carter set the NBA world ablaze with his performance during the Slam Dunk Contest in 2000, changing the way people view the event forever and actually playing a significant role in almost killing the buzz of the contest.

Since Carter's ridiculous performance 19 years ago, there have been only a few dunk contests that have truly interested in NBA fans, with Jason Richardson, Nate Robinson and Zach LaVine representing the bulk of them.

For the most part, though, the dunk contest has been a dying event for quite some time, as no one has been able to replicate Carter's greatness.

Given that the dunk contest is generally won by guards and wings, Collins is already at a disadvantage, but it certainly can't hurt to get some tips from Carter and Wilkins.
