NBA on TNT's “Inside the NBA” recently guested Atlanta Hawks rookie Trae Young in their entertaining broadcast. This gave Hall of Famer and show co-anchor Shaquille O'Neal an opportunity to challenge the youngster to a hilarious staredown contest.

Young happily obliged, and naturally, hilarity ensued:

Despite all the mind games and trash talking from O'Neal, Young still put up quite a good fight. He stared Shaq right in the eye with a cold-blooded look, and at one point, it seemed that he was going to pull off the upset. However, O'Neal's experience proved to be his edge, as the 47-year-old was able to eventually defeat Young and defend his home court.

In his defense, Young may have still been feeling a bit fatigued following another noteworthy performance against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. In a 111-104 defeat against coach Gregg Popovich and his men, the 6-foot-2 point guard put up a team-high 22 points (on 8-of-24 shooting), one three-pointer, six rebounds. four assists, a steal, and two turnovers in 32 minutes of play.

Young has been on quite a run of late, as he attempts to catch Rookie of the Year frontrunner Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks for this season's top greenhorn honor. The Mavs rookie sensation may be way ahead thanks to his amazing play throughout the season, but with Young's recent surge, there are some who believe that the race is much closer than most would assume.
