The Atlanta Hawks have signed free-agent forward Thomas Robinson to a non-guaranteed deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The veteran journeyman has spent time in and out of the NBA, last playing for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2016-17 season. The 6-foot-10 big man last played for Khimki of the VTB United League and the EuroLeague.

Robinson was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, but failed to last his entire first season there, getting traded to the Houston Rockets after 51 games with the team.

A former member of the Kansas Jayhawks, Robinson has had stints with the Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and the Lakers — six total teams in five years of service.

Robinson averaged a mere 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game during his stint in L.A., playing a career-low 11.7 minutes per game.

This non-guaranteed deal represents a low-risk move with decent potential upside for the Hawks, who will take a gamble on the former college star to see if he has developed with more playing time overseas.

If proven a worthy gamble during training camp, Robinson will have to compete against Omari Spellman and Alex Poythress for some playing time at the power forward spot.
