Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks are right in the thick of a play-in tournament seeding battle. The latest news on John Collins does them no favors.
The Hawks big man will reportedly be “sidelined indefinitely” due to lingering foot and finger injuries, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner and Shams Charania.
Hawks forward John Collins has a plantar fascia tear in his right foot as well as damage to his right ring finger, sources tell me and Chris Kirschner. Collins has been playing through pain for past several weeks, but will now be sidelined indefinitely.

John Collins has already sat out in 10 of the Hawks' last 14 contests due to said injuries, but now the power forward will be placed on the shelf for the foreseeable future.
Atlanta sits just one game out of the ninth-placed Charlotte Hornets and 1.5 games behind the Brooklyn Nets for the 8-seed.
The good news for Trae Young and the Hawks is that the Washington Wizards, who currently sit at 11th, have been spiraling of late and just lost their last five games. That has created a comfy cushion of 4.5 games between them for the 10-seed, which virtually guarantees the Atlanta Hawks at least a spot in the play-in tournament.
